Same Words In TOC & Index

I have created a 100 page document with a TOC and Index.
I am trying to increase the number of headings in my TOC.
Some words from my selected text for my additional
headings are also in the Index. Many of my new headings
are not showing up in my updated TOC. Is there a conflict
because one or more of the words in my new additional
headings are also in the Index?

If so, is there a way I can easily remove all the
formating codes for the Indexed words. I have about 6,000
and I don't care to do them one-at-a-time.

Thanks...

What formatting are you applying to the headings to have them included in
the TOC? Have you updated the TOC?

Yes...I updated the TOC ...many times.
I am using heading 4 heading 5 and heading 6 for the text.

I did find something in the help file. You need to do
special stuff to use designated words from inside a
paragraph to show up in the TOC.

By..the..way.. I am actually using the TOC capability to
build an Outline from the document. I think it is going
to work slick!

Thanks for your response.
