Runtime Error wmiprvse.exe

Greetings,

We have a machine running XP Pro and yesterday began showing a runtime
error that stated a problem with C:WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe.

It seems to be causeing very slow PC speed, eating up 100% of the CPU,
freezing applications and causing general havoc in the PC.

No apparent infections. The PC is part of a networ, all PCs are scanned
daily by Symantec AV CE and weekly by Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and
protected by SpywareBlaster as well.

Checked under MSINFO32, no problematic hardware listed. I see hundreds of
posts across the internet regarding this file as an issue but no fix.

Any thoughts?

wmiprvse.exe is a part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and deals with WMI operations
through the WinMgmt.exe process.

I have the same trouble as Joel. In fact it started around the same
time as well.

Hoping "Microsoft" will see this posting and recommend a fix!!!

I have found nothing to fix the error. It appears on my computer 30-50
times per day and requires me to click "OK" 10-20 times to make it
dissappear. It seems to the cause of very slow PC processor speak as
well.

This application has requested the Runtime to teminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This was happening a couple of months ago. Stopped now has reoccured after
I uninstalled McAffee and installed Microsoft Live One Care. I can't resolve
the problem

I'm sitting at a machine with a very similar problem. It was running Windows
Xp Pro with no problems, till about 2 weeks ago (about Sept 9 or so). Now we
can use Task Manager to watch WMIPRVSE.EXE climb in memory usage. All
applications can be closed and WMIPRVSE.EXE keeps allocating more and more
memory. I found something about a memory leak effecting WMIPRVSE.EXE on a
2003 Server environment. But, nothing 'official' from Microsoft for a Windows
XP environment. I ran SFC on the machine with no change. All the Windows
updates are on. Norton has updated definations. A complete virus scan turned
up nothing. The computer has 512kb of memory. WMIPRVSE.EXE has a runtime
error when it's memory usage passes 136,240k.
