Running Multiple Instances of PowerPoint 2003

I'm running a laptop with dual display. I want to have
two instances of PPT 2003 running; one PPT file opened
and displayed on the monitor, and another PPT file opened
and displayed on the laptop. No matter what I do, I
cannot get 2 instances of PPT to run independently,
regardless of the display location. The files ALWAYS run
in the same PPT window, whether on the laptop display or
the monitor. I find this incredible. I have not found a
way to run multiple instances of PPT 2003, each in its
own memory space, truly running separately from the other
instance. The reason I want to do this is to be able to
compare two similar files side-by-side on two screens.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm running a desktop with dual display and like jx0a6b like to compare PPT
files side-by-side. My workaround is to open the two files side-by-side in
the same PPT window (Window --> Arrange All). Then I grab the edge of the
PPT window and pull it across so that extends across the two monitors. The
result is that one file is now displayed on each monitor. It is a bit
finicky working like this as the PPT toolbars stay on the primary display,
but if you are making your edits to the doc on the primary display and using
the file on the secondary display only for comparison, it works alright.

I find that with MS Word after choosing Arrange All, I can then pull one
document over to the second monitor even though I'm still only running one
instance of Word. I expected PPT to work the same way.

I'm going to check out the add-in mentioned by Mike.
