Running a DOS program under XP

D

Doug Cummings

I have one program (dBase for DOS 5) which is a DOS
program and I would like find out how to run DOS programs
under windows XP. There is a windows versions of this same
program out but when it is very slow and awkward, whereas
I am used to the DOS version and can work through it quite
quickly and easily. I ran it under Windows 95 and 98SE for
years.

Can someone tell me how to set XP up to run a DOS program.
I have installed the program but when I go to run it I
don't get very far. Initially a screen comes up which says
that the computer is not set for the code page selected -
this message has been coming up for years and I just click
it off - and then on the next screen all I get are colored
dots all over the screen everywhere the cursor has been
and XP locks up.

HELP.

You can use application compatibility. Right click on the executable for
the program, properties, app compat tab and set it to run as a DOS app.
