Run-time error/Automation error

Greetings!

Windows 98SE w/IE6 + latest updates/patches

I had an earlier version of FastNet99 on my Windows 98SE. I decided to check
out the newer version to see if it would be a timesaver (managing host file,
etc.). I uninstalled the old version and installed the latest version, v4.3.
The readme file stated that VB 6.0 Runtime was required. I have it already
installed on my system (verified by file versions).

It installed w/o any problems but when I run it. FastNet99 v4.3 stalls and
then this message:

===========================================
Run-time error '-2147319779 (8002801d)':

Automation error
Application-defined or object-defined error
============================================

I uninstalled and reinstalled and get the same message. It appears to load
the program but stops short. There is nothing wrong with the software - it
works on another Windows 98SE machine. I have disabled all running task
except explorer but still no help.

I reinstalled MS VB 6.0 Runtime (vbrun60sp5.exe) and no change. I then
installed MS Windows Script (scr56en.exe) and still no change.

I have read about other software experiencing similar problems due to dll
files not registering or not having DCOM 1.3, etc. Other suggestions
include reformat and reinstall.

I need some help!!

Problem solved! ;-)

While attempting to get FastNet99 to work, I (re)installed the following:

1. Windows Script 5.6 Date Published: 6/9/2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows
NT 4.0
This download installs Microsoft® Windows® Script containing Visual Basic®
Script Edition (VBScript.) Version 5.6, JScript® Version 5.6, Windows Script
Components, Windows Script Host 5.6, and Windows Script Runtime Version 5.6.

2. Visual Basic 6.0 SP5: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp5.exe) Date
Published: 2/28/2001
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en

vbrun60sp5.exe is a self-extracting executable file that installs versions
of the Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files required by all applications
created with Visual Basic 6.0. The files include the fixes shipped with
Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5.

No change at all ... and I've read suggestions that MDAC may need
reinstalling. My current version (dlls) for this is dated 4/25/03. So, any
port in a storm! Next on my list is:

3. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Date Published: 8/4/2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 contains core Data Access
components such as the Microsoft SQL Server™ OLE DB provider and ODBC
driver.

I have (re)registered the following installed with FastNet99:

Ctor.dll
Iuser.dll
Objectps.dll
Iscript.dll

In addition I used Faber Toys (nice collecion - check it out) to find
Fastnet99 dependencies and (re)register dll and ocx files. Used REGSVR32.EXE
to (re)register the files.

I uninstalled FastNet99 and removed registry references to it using Norton
Utilities. Reinstalled. Same.

At this point - with my limited knowledge - I'm satisfied that I've done all
I can do and I've come to the conclusion that it's a FastNet99 problem -
mainly because this is the only program I use that has this kind of problem.

From an old song by Chuck Berry . . . "to much monkey business for me to be
involved in."

Problem solved! I downloaded/Installed CIP, the fastest IP checker on the
net. http://www.radsoft.net/gallery/cip/
