routing and remote access errors

My operating system is Windows XP Home. I want to set up my pc to accept incomming connections. When I use the New Connection Wizard to do this I get two errors in event viewer:

1. source: Remote Access
event ID: 20152
The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. The specified procedure could not be found.

2. source: Service Control Manager
event ID: 7024
The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 127 (0x7F).

I can't find a solution for this on the internet for Windows XP Home. Who can solve this?

Have you disabled any services from starting?
Are any services set to automatic, but not, in fact, started?

Also please verify whether have configured RADIUS for
authentication/accounting (may be intentional/accidental) without specifing
the server names. you can verify it using the server MMC by right-clicking
on the properties of the server; goto Security Tab and see what you have
configured.

Thanks, Srivats

All automatic services are started. The three services that, to my knowledge, are important for routing and remote access are also started
1. Remote Access Auto Connection Manage
2. Remote Access Connection Manage
3. Telephony.

Thank you for your reply. But how can I access the server MMC in Windows XP Home? If I open MMC and go to "file/add or remove snap-in/standalone/add" I can't find server between the available standalone snap-ins.

Also verify that the following services are started:
Remote Registry
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Thank you for your reply. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is started. Remote Registry isn't provided with Windows XP Home.

MBSA reported MDAC Security Update was not installed (Windows Update didn't)

"MS03-033
Unchecked Buffer in MDAC Function Could Enable System Compromise (823718)"

After installing the update Routing and Remote Access service is able to run, what it wasn't before. I'm not quite sure it is this update that fixed it, but a bunch of people on the internet were looking for a solution for this problem. They can try this and please give here some feedback.

I'm having the same problem trying to setup a VPN...I can setup the VP
connection going to the other computer, but when I go back into th
wizard and try to setup an advanced connection...."allow incomin
connections" the program instantly freezes, I go to the task manage
and end the wizard, then explorer closes and restarts. I've trie
installing the patch that was listed in the previous reply, and tha
didn't seem to work. The RPC is started and running, along with remot
registry. I'm running XP Pro SP1. HELP!!!!

Thanks,
Tim

I too am having trouble starting the Routing and Remote Access service. This trouble seems to have began a couple of days ago when the machine would not completely shut down, so I had to hard reset the box

Before that time, I had an existing incoming VPN connection that worked flawlessly. Since the hard reset, it's a no go. The incoming VPN connection is no longer in Network Connections

When the machine boots and I enter the Services manager, RRAS is started, but whenever I head into Network Connections to recreate the incoming VPN, I get the error that: "Incoming connections depend on the Routing and Remote Access service which was unable to start. For more information, check the event log.

So... the event log says
Source: Service Control Manage
Event ID: 702
Description: "The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 3604 (0xE14). For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I can't find error 3604 hardly anywhere, and I have no clue what to do. Is part of my registry corrupt? Does the old VPN connection still exist somewhere behind the scenes

Thanks in adance for your help

FYI: I just did a System Restore back to the point just prior to my no-shutdown hard reset. ALL IS WELL

this service on their latest drivers. I'll have to try that when
return home but I will keep you all posted. Please keep thinking o
solutions!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Tim
