Reverting to Windows 2000 from Windows XP

I am currently using Windows XP Pro on my office
workstation but I need to convert to Windows 2000 to be
able to test a software install that doesn't run on XP.
So, I believe I need to do one of two things:

1. Remove XP and reinstall Windows 2000. How do I do this
smoothly? Will I need to create a Windows 2000 start-up
disk? What other things will I need to do?

2. Leave XP on my machine and install 2000 on another
drive. Will this create other problems for me?

What is the best way to achieve the needed results?
