REQ: An uninstall program to remove a stubborn program

L

Larry

I downloaded and installed a program, Internet Downloader, which I
cannot get rid of. Neither Add-Remove Pro nor the Windows add-remove
program is able to uninstall it. Does anyone know of a freeware program
that is able to uninstall programs that are otherwise uninstallable?

Thanks in advance.

If the program's install program is made using Windows Installer,
then perhaps Microsofts "MS Installer Registry cleanup" utility can fix it.

Important Warning

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve
installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you
use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.

Unless you have used an installation monitoring program like Total
Uninstall or InstallRight to record the changes that Internet Downloader
made, then the answer is NO.

If you are using WinME or XP, then System Restore back to a date prior to
the install of Internet Downloader.

download jv16 power tools and use the registry finder to find the
program. Delete all entries.

Larry,
It's too late to use an uninstaller now, since they need to monitor
the installation in order to know what was changed. However, you can try
running the installation again from the start and then try "Add/Remove
Programs" again to see if that works.

Also, it would have been helpful if you would have provided more
information in your post. For instance, a link to the program would have
been nice, as would mention of the version of Windows and any service
packs you're using.

Other than that, your best bet is to use "System Restore", assuming
you're running Millennium Edition or a version of XP.

Hi John!

Yesterday I used system restore and it worked.

Larry,
Be sure to look for residual traces of the program, like folders with
orphan files in them. At this point it's safe to simply delete them.
