'Repair LAN Connection' Window will not go away (SP2 Issue)

Sometimes, after right clicking on my LAN icon in the system tray and
choosing Repair, I receive a dialog box stating..

Windows finished repairing your connection. You can try connecting again.

If the problem persists, contact the person who manages your network.

There is no way to close this window. The Cancel button is all that is
displayed and clicking on it has absolutely no effect. The only way I have
been able to successfully rid my screen of this annoying window is to either
Log out or Restart my computer. Any suggestions? SP2 Bug?

Rex,

if you cannot determine the cause, your best bet is to use the
repair procedures outlined in
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm, particularly IP stack and
Winsock. If these don't cut it, your second last way out is to
try a repair installation of Windows XP, preferably one with SP2
slipstreamed, i.e. integrated into the install CD.

The last way out is, of course, an installation of Windows XP
from scratch, but let's not be pessimistic.
