how do i rename file extensions in windows xp. i never had the least problem with windows 98 performing this task. it seems to be impossible in windows xp

example: change file "abc.zip" to "abc.xyz

my office has software in place on server that won't allow zip files to be received. when i work at home, i cannot send zip files back to myself via e-mail to continue work the next day. this is a pain

You rename them in XP the same way you did in any other version of Windows.
Make sure that you're set to view all file extensions; that might be part of
the problem. By default, known extensions are hidden.

Either change your settings to show file extensions (do this in Folder
Options) or rename using quotes. "abc.xyz" with quotes will end up as
abc.xyz instead of abc.xyz.zip

I think, if I recall, that the following from the Comman Prompt will also
work for multiple extension renames, right? Don't wanna test it - too sick
to fix it if I'm wrong :-]

ren *.zip *.xyz
