I need to reinstall XP on the PC, but the process stops with the message that the CD has an older version and can not proceed (the CD is 7 yrs old and numerous updates have been received till now).

How does one go about removing XP & reinstalling it?

If all else fails is the following option viable?

The PC has 2 HDs. Can the slave be made the master & XP installed on it & the new slave can be wiped clean of all XP related info?

Thanks

Try uninstalling all you're updates

Why you want to install it to an earlier version?

Yes if you change slave to master and vice versa.
Make sure you back stuff up though first before you install new OS onto it

If you don't mind losing any data within your current XP install then just boot from the XP CD and when you're given the option to format your primary disk, do it and install original version of XP.

Once up and running install all the Service packs and updates via online.

No need to mess about swapping disks about.

I'm not even sure you can uninstall all updates anyway via the windows installer?

START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS>

Click SHOW ALL UPDATES at top. Scroll through them

Never done it so no idea if you can and whether it will revert you back to a almost fresh system!

Anyone know? Might come in handy one day lol

What ya rekon Flopps?
