Remove domain from Windows XP Prof. laptop

I had purchased mty own laptop that was configured to
boot to my company's domain. I have just changed jobs &
would now like to remove that domain boot up without
losing access to my local data.

Is there a way to do this without reformatting &
reinstalling Windows?

Greetings --

Log in using the built-in Administrator account and create a local
user account for yourself. Then right-click My Computer > Properties
Computer Name > Change, click the Workgroup option and pick a name
for it. Click <OK> and reboot. Once more, log in using the built-in
Administrator account and copy the desired data and settings from your
old domain account's user profile to your new, local account's
profile.

Bruce,

Thanks for your help. My only fear was losing access to
the data if I did this. I have a local account on the
machine. Both my domain & local IDs are Admin level, yet
neither can open each others info.

I'll give this a try.

Thanks again,
Rich
