Remove Comptuer Description from "Name" field in My Network Places

I

Ian

I've searched all over the web for the answer to this
annoyance and I just can't believe that it is not
possible to customize this.

I also noticed that I am not the only one that finds this
annoying.

When a network place is automatically created in My
Network Places its name is of the format SHARE NAME "on"
COMPUTER DESCRIPTION "(" COMPTUER NAME ")".

This is highly undesirable since the computer description
is a description (i.e. a sentence with spaces in it and
such) which is usually longer than one word.

I would like the default name to be SHARE NAME "on"
COMPUTER NAME I don't really want to see the description
unless I go looking for it.

I would like the interface to be similar to the previous
versions of Windows. Microsoft has created the option to
turn the interface of control panel back to it's original
format. Why can't I figure out how to switch this
interface back to the original method?

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

The following article talks about the problem I have but
it doesn't propose a solution to it.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;824386&Product=winxp

If this can't be changed can someone at least explain to
me the rational behind this design change? Cuz I can't
see it at all.

Oh and I don't want to have to manually change every
network place added (this seems like a waste of time) and
I don't want to get rid of the descriptions. I want to
change the way Windows automatically creates these
entries.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ian,

Did you ever get an answer to this? I've been looking for
over a year for the solution to this.
