Hi,
I have used dsl for the past year or so. Now, for the next three weeks I
have to connect to the Internet with a modem and I tried to establish a
connection to an ISP. However, I think some files on my w2k system (SP4,
athlon, 512 mb ram) got corrupted as I can't start the Remote Access
Connection Manager.
If I try to create a new connection through the connections menu of IE6,
I get the error message: "cannot load RACM / error 711". I tried to start
RACM manually in the administrative tools section, but then I get the error
message "cannot load RACM / error 1717, more information in the event
log (which does not contain any information at all...). If I try to
configure
a connection with the "Network and dialup connections" wizard, I can
enter all information, but after the last step (connection name) I get the
error message that I need to choose another name for the connection
(no matter what name I use). TCP/IP protocolls are installed; dependent
services (telephony...) are up and running. I don't have a clue what's
going on on this machine.
I already googled for a solution, but only found an MS article related to
an XP-Service Pack-problem -- nothing on w2k so far. However, a number
of posts indicate that many people have a similar problem . . .
Thank you very much for your help. All tips are very much appreciated!
