I would like to reformat my mom's hard drive, thus,
whiping out the os, which is currentl Win XP Home. If I
go to reinstall the os, will i still be able to activate
is for the secondtime after the hard drive is clean?

Simple answer is Yes. you can reinstall and reactivate as often as you like.
There is no restriction. The only time you will have problems is if you
change the hardware on your pc or move the copy of XP to another machine.
You will then need to telephone the activation line. If you are simply
reinstalling on the same machine with the same hardware you should have no
problem activating over the internet.

But, have your key code handy. You'll need it.

Yes. You can do so, not only the second time, but as many times
as you like.

Worst case, you'll have to reactivate by voice phone call to an
800 number, but even that is quick and easy.

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
