Reinstall Printer Spooler service

I do not have the Print Spooler service listed in my
Services. How can I get this reinstalled in Win XP
Home?

I have the program SPOOLSV.EXE, but it does nothing when
I try to run it. When I type "net start spooler" I am
given the message "The service name is invalid." In my
registry there is nothing
below "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print". I
have read many posts and I can tell you I have never
tried to use a Lexmark printer. I tried to install a
Canon i250 and it was Canon tech support that showed me
that I was missing this service that "everyone has
running."

I am curious, but how it happened is not as important as
how to get the darn thing running again. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I have finally gotten this thing installed.
The scf did not find any problem. Unfortunately I had to
do a XP repair installation, but it seems to have done
the trick. Now I hope I don't have any printer
installation problems. Thanks again.

You can try running the System File Checker....from the command prompt, type

sfc /scannow
(note the space between the c and the /)

If that does not work, you'll have to do a Repair Installation...
