TIP - HOW TO CONTROL THE VARIOUS ALERTS FROM THE VISTA SECURITY CENTER

The Windows Vista Security Center will produce alerts when certain things
are not prosent, not running or not correctly configured. An example of such
an alert would be when the AntiVirus product is not running or the signature
files are out of date.

It is possible to control much of this functionaility and supress the alerts
by creating or changing various values below the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Security Center \ Svc

AntiSpywareOverride - When set to 1 this setting prevents the Windows
Security Center from displaying alerts when a suitable anti-malware /
spyware product is is not detected. This is a REG_DWORD value.

AntiVirusOverride - When set to 1 this setting prevents the Windows Security
Center from displaying alerts when a suitable anti-virus product is is not
detected. This is a REG_DWORD value.

FirewallOverride - When set to 1 this setting prevents the Windows Security
Center from displaying alerts when the Windows Firewall is disabled or not
completely configured to expected standards. This is a REG_DWORD value.

NB: To modify the above values, grant permissions to your account to the svc
key and then change the values. It's also probably advisable to remove the
permissions afterwards...
