Registering controls on Vista RC2: Error 0x80004005

Ivan Debono

Hi,

I've installed an application and it's not working. So I tried to register
its com controls (ocx). I get the error: 0x80004005

These are com controls and they usually get registered during setup. The
same app works fine under windows xp.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Try installing as administrator, not from an administrator-level account.

HI,

How do I log on as Administrator. When I start up Vista, I have my picture,
name and need to enter the password. There's now button or whatever to click
to change user.

Ok. Enabled the Admin account, installed the app and it works like a charm
under the admin account!!

When I try to run the app under my account, it doesn't work fine. I guess it
has to do with security, but what?

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi,

You're correct in that it has to do with security. You'll likely need to
change permissions on the program folder from administrators to the
administrators group for full control.

Hi,

Yep. A few security changes here and there and it seems that it works :)

Thanks,
Ivan
