Recycle Bin problems

I was having some problems with Spy ware and ended up in the registeries
trying to resolve my problem and was following the directions from a
microsoft sheet and I must have done something wrong. What I have left is a
recycle bin icon that does not have a name "Recycle Bin under it and all I
can got if I right click on it is three words:
Cut
create short cut
and
Delete

It will not create a short cut so I am at odds at what to do and do not know
how to restore what I must have done in the registry I do know it was a line
in the right hand column regarding some key that was like a number
645FF040-5081-and so on I sure hope someone can help me as I can not afford
245.00 for MS support.

I do not know what you did, and quite apparently neither do you. I
suspect you made no full registry backup in advance nor did you
export the specific key you were working on in advance... required
and prudent proceedures as I see it. If that had (as should be)
done, repairing the damage would probably be very simple.

Your partial keyname may be
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

If so, you can Export that key to a REGEDIT4 (W9x compatible) format
REG file. Copy the information and post it in a message here.
Perhaps the damage will be visible and recognized. Also always state
you Operating System and Service Pack level.

All this also assumes that this is the only thing you changed of
course.

HI I am sorry this is my first time here I am operating Windows 2000 with all
teh service packs installed. I think there were 4 or more, but I have always
kept up with my critical updates. Sorry I am such a stupin one. I am fairly
good with computers, but the registeries was a new on on me and I was trying
to follow the directions in the support sections regarding teh recicle bin
does not appear on the desktop. However none of the suggestions seemed to
fully answer the need. I no longer have a recycle bin at all now and
rebooting (hoping I would get it back as someone suggested) did no good
either. I hope someone has a magic pill - if not then I will just buy a new
hard drive make the new one the master and put on Windows WP pro and make the
older drive a slave and take things from it to get things back to normal
again. This time i'm going to buy the full version of Spy Sweeper and
reinstall Norton 2005 and trudge on from there. I just thought if someone
knew what I could do to this setup I'd at least buy some more time for myself
with teh holidays just around the corner I wanted to do a few christmas
projects. Here's hoping!

Copy the stuff BETWEEN the ==== lines to a notepad file. Save the file
as a .reg file, for example: recycle.reg exit the file and notepad.
Now double click the file or right click and select "Merge". That will
merge the information to the registry & should fix the Recycle Bin, you
might havr to reboot.
