Recovery Console password and backup won't backup

My system has gone fubar - my DSL modem crapped apparently (so I'm told)
scattering the tcp/ip to blazes.

I've installed recovery console but I can't get it to allow me to use no
password...what does it want? I changed administrator to my name but
neither works

I tried backing up the registry but backup is telling me it failed while
creating shadow copy.

I've also lost all ability to go onto network even at work.

WHAT happened?

(could .net install have done all of this?)

Hi Parakeet,

If you have XP Pro go to Start > Run > secpol.msc
There's a directive that disables the password on the recovery console
and lets you access it without it.

Good luck

Security Options > Recovery console: Allow auto admin logon is now
enabled and allow floppy copy and access to all drives is now
enabled..is that all I need to do?

Thank you! (I hope someday to have answers instead of questions)
