Recovering Files on Old HDD

Daibidh

Hi,

A friend of mine brought me his new PC running Windows XP Pro. He has his
main hard drive from his old computer that ran Windows XP Home set up as
SLAVE. The drive is accessible but he is locked out of all files stored in
the "My Documents" folder.

The Windows installation on the old drive is currently unbootable even when
the drive is installed in the old computer. The documents in question were
stored using a Windows profile that was password protected and the files
were not shared with any other profile. He has the old profile name and
password. Any ideas on the quickest least painful way to gain access to
those files? I see no reason why I couldn't fix the Windows installation
and get his old computer running again.... but to go to all that effort just
to back up a few important files seems silly if I don't have to.

I'm obviously inexperienced so any help is greatly appreciated.

Dave
