im looking to buy a wireless access point for the following reasons:

want to share files
want to share a Broadband connection
Share a printer

Particualry would like to have:

Built in firewall
compatable with both B and G 802.11 standards

and obvioulsy, want the device to be a ADSL modem aswell..

Price will not be an issuse if the product is good value for money. Any suggestions for a specific company or model would be nice.

Which one do you own? want to hear it from the horses mouth itself! :)

Netgear are always very good. What about the wireless version of the DG834 - oval shape, sliver, flat with an antenna and has a built in hardware firewall...

I know 2 people with one and it works good...

Good company.

what about Linksys?

hope the link works dont really know how to link links!
bt the model number is WRT54G.

i dont think i see a inbuilt firewall though.

christopherpostill, the Netgear looks very good all round has lots of features. u think Netgear are good?

but i think because it breaks the 100 quid limit, its not for me. im looiking to get the wiresll access point and filters under 100 quid at the very least.

I am going to have ADSL broadband, if i was to get the wireless access point can some1 please tell me what wire goes where

i understand this as , i connect an RJ11 from the access point to my phone socket and then i connect a RJ45 from my access point to my NIC card

Correct ... the RJ 11 is the gobbledegook for a Phone Jack ... just like any modem you need both the PC and "line" connected to it.

With NTL you get the fibre optic cable directly connected to the modem ... just thought I'd gloat on that one.

PSD, your dragging this out a bit, i've suggested a router you can use with built in ADSL modem, said that right at the beginning.

the router they are advertising is the UPGRADE of the DG834 - the DG834 is actually discontinued by Netgear. I have an 834 and it does not have a firewall...

good though, my next door neighbour has one (the upgraded one)

update: i can actually guarantee its the upgraded version of the DG834 because people say it does not have a power switch. My one does, next doors does not.

I swear it has a different model number...

Update 2: Hmm... maybe it dosent have a new model number... i swore it was changed...

weird
