Reactivate XP Pro after reinstall

J

Johan

I have upgraded XP to XP Pro. And I activated the
installation. But now I like to completely reinstall XP
Pro from the start on the same computer. How can I
reactivate this new installation up against Microsoft web
sites after the new install with the same key I have?

Will I be rejected when I try to activate this new
installation?
Is there some way to deactivate the old installation
before I reinstall?

Best regards
Johan, from Norway

Just follow the instructions during the reinstall. You don't have to
take any special actions to deactivate the old install before reinstall.

Hello Johan,

Activation should be no problem.

I would suggest you do a clean install of XP Pro. If it is an upgrade
edition, all you will have to do is insert your XP Home CD when prompted, to
verify eligibility. You will have fewer problems this way.

You probably will have no problems at all. In fact, if 120 days are based,
it's a sure thing (barring technical difficulties) that you'll have no
problem at all.

But you might feel more secure with a bit more information and preparation.
Alex Nichol has prepared an excellent FAQ on Windows Product Activation that
both tells you how it works (so you can ease your anxiety) and some steps to
take to put you personally even more in control of the process. I recommend
it: http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm
