I have seen this happen when there is a Delegate
and when the Calendar Cache is being used.

Be sure to turn off the Calendar Cache option in
the calendar for anyone working with delegates. This
needs to be done for both the Main guy and his
delegate.

TOOLS | OPTIONS | PREFERENCES tab
CALENDAR OPTIONS...
Turn off the check mark for ALWAYS USE LOCAL CAL

I found the following technet article that sounds close to
this.

OL2000: (CW) ErrMsg: "Cannot dismiss or postpone the
reminder because the corresponding item in the folder you
synchronized does not match this item."

Here is the error message the user recieves.
"Cannot update the appointment because the corresponding
item in the folder you synchronized does not match this
item. To resolve the conflict, open the item. Do you want
to open the item now" What can be causing this to happen.
