re-activated twice by phone, still not activated

Hello
I got the 'need to activate' after successfully activating online, after
updating the latest patches and critical updates for windows, and had to call
to activate due to 'too many times activated'. But when I turned on the
computer again, it gave me the need to activate story again! I called again
and re-activated again today. But when I turned off and one, it came back
saying I need to activate windows.
Clearly the telephonic activation is not working.
I am down to 1 Day Left for activation.
What do I do now? What will happen after tomorrow? Will I not be able to
turn on?
The computer came with the XP loaded, so no disk.
Help !

Sounds like you need to properly clean or rebuild your computer and then
your problems will go away.

In cases where you keep having problems keeping a computer activated,
where you've already activated over phone, it would seem to indicate
you're computer is compromised or you have other serious problems.

Are you sure you copy licensed? If sure, you can contact MS support
team. If not, you have to pay it for a license.

How do I contact MS support?
What will happen after 2 days - will I not be able to turn my computer on?
It is a licenced copy.
Thanks

L.A., as your computer came with Windows XP preinstalled and no disks, then
you'll have to contact the manufacturer/shop that sold you the computer.

This may occur if you have a copy of reset5 on your machine. Perhaps do a
full search for reset5 and post any results you find. If reset5 is found you
may be a victim of software piracy. If so, contact 1-800-RULEGIT

And what compromise or serious problem could possibly cause this other
than having the WPA program on the computer?

Like I always say, WPA and WGA only inconvenience the paying customer
and don't affect the pirates on iota.

Or a victim of a flawed WPA program. Why do you assume that WPA is flawless?

Except that you don't know if the copy that's installed is legit or not,
it could, like many, be a pirated copy.

I know that what I have installed is legit, not because of some scammy
WPA/WGA program but because I know who I bought it from and what their
business practices are.

How many true pirates have been busted due to WPA or WGA? None?

How many paying customers have been inconvenienced due to WPA and/or
WGA? Millions?

NOT a good PR move and very greedy.

Want to stop "casual piracy"? Lower the prices and let each household
install three copies of Windows and three copies of Office and only have
to buy one of each.

I know at least one, and they confirmed that they knew it was pirated,
and it was properly detected also.

None that I've read so far, they've all been using pirated copies, even
if they didn't know it, but, when someone posts that their ebay
purchased computer with a hand written COA, without any media, didn't
pass WGA, that doesn't mean they have a legit copy, it's about 99.9%
sure that it was pirated.
NOT a good PR move and very greedy.

Except that the move is not a problem that impacts owners of legit
software/licenses.

It seems to be working - as the person I know that has a pirated copy of
Win XP Prof has already purchased a replacement that is legit.

Are you blind? There are posts every day here from people inconvenienced
by WPA and WGA, including the OP in this thread!

False. I can't count the times that Carey has directed paying customers
to a Microsoft web site for a "workaround" to WGA.

No, it isn't "working". WGA and WPA are making legit paying customers
angry and rightfully so. People like you have computers so you can post
on Usenet and fiddle with your computer. Most people have computers to
use them for business and pleasure and don't need to spend hours fixing
a flawed WGA or WPA program.

And don't tell me WPA isn't flawed. I disabled my NIC and activation
popped up FOUR times. It was just what I needed when I was trying to get
my NIC to work. NOT!!!

others (according to him) and when he asked me to fix his computer, it
was detected and he admitted it.

You are sadly mistaken, I have a BUNCH of servers and several
workstations in my home dedicated to the business I run. I also have a
bunch more servers and workstations dedicated to
projects/learning/playing.

I've not had any problems with WPA or WGA on any computer in my home,
business, and none of the almost 1800 computers running XP / 2003 that
we manage are having problems with WPA or WGA either.

Strange, I disable the NIC on my laptop, in fact, I disable the Wireless
and wired NIC's (notice that's two) on my laptop all the time and I
never experience this. I also never see this on other computers. I'm
willing to bet there is more behind your issue than just a working
computer without any changes having an issue when you disable the NIC.

Hi Aias
You were right - I am just a home user who does not have time to fiddle with
complicated 'workarounds' - and knows very little about the inside workings
of programms anyway. For instance what is a WPA?
It sounds as if I have to cart the computer off to a computer shop and pay
for it to be reformatted and hopefully not lose too much data somewhere where
I forgot to back it up.
Most frustrating.
Thanks for all your advice.

So, who provided your copy of XP?

What vendor did you purchase the computer through?

If the problem happened because of a Windows Update, and you own a legit
copy of XP, you can contact them, even if you start by email, and get
support.

Here is something that may help with your problem, this was not written
by me, but it has a lot of detail and seems correct:

1. Boot in Safe mode

2. Search for Reset5.bat files and delete them

3. Click Start / Run, type cmd

4. Type cd \windows\system32

5. Run the following commands: (D should be the location of your Win XP
media CD)

expand d:\i386\licwmi.dl_ c:\windows\system32

expand d:\i386\regwizc.dl_ c:\windows\system32

expand d:\i386\licdll.dl_ c:\windows\system32

expand d:\i386\wpabaln.ex_ c:\windows\system32

ren wpa.dbl wpa.old

expand d:\i386\wpa.db_ c:\windows\system32

copy c:\windows\system32\licwmi.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache

copy c:\windows\system32\regwizc.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache

copy c:\windows\system32\licdll.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache

copy c:\windows\system32\wpabaln.exe c:\windows\system32\dllcache

regsvr32.exe licwmi.dll

regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

exit

6. Click Start / Run, type inf

7. Locate the file oobe.inf

8. Right click the file and choose Install

9. Click Start / Run, type regedit

10. Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents

11. Open the key OOBETimer and change its value (just delete some
numbers)

12. Restart the server and activate it

Your client is a "casual pirate". A true pirate wouldn't bother with the
likes of you and the one who sold your client the pirated XP, of course!
And WGA doesn't seem to be the problem for this OP, it was WPA that

Dodging the issue, are we? Yes, the OP has a problem with WPA but many
have had problems with WGA and you know it.

Just because you haven't had problems (if true, which is doubtful),
doesn't mean other haven't. I know I have.

I did, four times, and I know my copy is legit.

And why should she do this instead of USING her computer? Why do you
think it's OK to spend hours trying to sort out a problem caused by MS
and their greedy you-are-a-thief-until-you-prove-otherwise trip?

Casual? Why do you play that game? A pirate is a pirate - they take
things that don't belong to them or that they have no right too.
Dodging the issue, are we? Yes, the OP has a problem with WPA but many
have had problems with WGA and you know it.

Dodging? Are you actually awake? You clouded the issue - the issue was
WPA related, you bright WGA into it. The problem the op posted had
nothing to do with WGA.
Just because you haven't had problems (if true, which is doubtful),
doesn't mean other haven't. I know I have.

And the problems that I've read in this group with WGA seem to be
clearly because of pirated copies of XP. The problems with WPA are
explained by several things - malware, hardware changes, OEM software
without the user understanding OEM licensing restrictions, VL software
pirated and keys being invalidated because of it....
I did, four times, and I know my copy is legit.

Great for you, did you report it to MS as bug? I suspect you have no
interest in making XP better, just continuing to complain. I've not read
about your problem anywhere else, not seen it myself, so it would
indicate to me that there is either a bug that needs to be reported, or
you have some other issue and it's just a symptom of the problem.

I'm sure this is exactly what the OP wants to do instead of using his or
her computer. Seems like an inconvenience to me and a whole lot of scary
stuff to do for a newbie but as long as MS keeps getting rich, you don't
care about that, do you?
