RC1: Maintaining my dual boot to XP

D

DJ Bjorklund

Using my Windows Feedback Panel DVD I'd like to do a clean install of
RC1 on the same partition I've got beta 2, and still be able to dual
boot to XP. So, I...

Boot from the DVD
Choose "custom" install
Point to the beta 2 partition
Complete the install

Post install I'll then be presented with the dual boot menu upon
start-up, correct?

Thanks as always.

Yes it should.

I would add that I would reformat the partition you are installing to during
the install.

Doesn't Vista do a quick format as a matter of course? I thought I read
somewhere that it does.

And DJ, for a young man, you seem to have a fairly good grip on using a
Windows-based computer. I realize it is a little early for you, but are you
considering Computer Science as something to study when you get to college
or is this just going to be a hobby for you?

DJ,
as already answered here, yes you do have the correct 'recipe'.
Please post back here about whether it works or not?.
Are you using build 5600?.

I selected format and then it did a quick format. If not selected, it may
do one automatically, it didn't do so before offering the option.

<grin>
Well Mark, as a 'young' 50 year old father of three, grandfather of
two, it looks like its a hobby.

Actually, like my roughly 12 year love/hate relationship with Windows
based computers, I've indeed only a "fairly good grip" on most
everything life throws my way, but still, I apparently get by. ;-)

<chuckle>

I obviously have become confused. There was another "DJ" that was posting
that was a middle school student. Ah well, at least we both got a laugh out
of my faux pas!

Indeed we did.
And best of luck to young DJ, wherever he may be!

Not yet sure as the neither documentation or the DVD disk itself seems
to indicate the build number.

If you received the disk from MS it'll be 5600. If you Dled it is probably
5600 or 5728.
If installed already, type winver in a command window.
