i assume you're running windows xp, correct? if so, you
had a newer version of directx (8.1-- it is installed with
windows xp) than what would've been required by Q2. i have
a newer (budget) copy of the game-- about two years old--
that insists on installing dx8 when you try to run the
autoplay installation, even though i've always had 8.1 or
9.0 on my xp machine... all you have to do is quit that
installation, then explore your cd-rom drive (usually D:\
or E:\) and find the setup.exe file. it's always installed
and ran fine for me using this somewhat ass-backwards
method. HOWEVER, if you tried installing an older version
of directx over 8.1 or 9.0, then you may be in for some
trouble. if this is the case, your quickest and dirtiest
answer will probably be to use system restore to set your
pc back to an earlier date before you messed with directx.
i'll defer all the technical details involving other
directx options (if any) to the real experts here... ;)

good luck.
