QBasic is missing from Win 2000. The fix is found @
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=258265

I found a WinNTv4 version of QBasic. I copied and pasted
the QBasic.exe and QBasic.hlp files into the System32
folder. After launching QBasic, the drop down menus don't
work. ie When you try to select the "File" drop down menu,
what happens is the "F" or the "i" etc. is selected. Dbl
ck. on "File" and the whole word "File" is selected. You
cannot scroll down, open a file, save, etc.

I've tried to run Qbasic versions from Win95 and Win98.
The same problem occurs.

Is there a different proceess for installing QBasic so
that it will work in Win 2000?

Can you help me to make QBasic work in Win 2000?
thanks,
kc

If you want to use the mouse, make sure that 'Quick edit'
mode is unchecked in the shortcut properties.

QBasic is missing from Win 2000...

I see your mouse question has already been answered.

Qbasic is not missing... it's obsolete, and no longer supported. In
Windows 2000, Basic programs can be written in VBScript (Visual Basic
Script) and run under Windows Scripting Host. If you own Microsoft
Word of MS Office, these include Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).

If you really like QBasic, or you need to run old Qbasic programs
unmodified, here's some useful information:
<http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/BASIC/QBasic_and_QuickBasic/>

There are lots of other Basics listed at
<http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/BASIC/>
many of which are free. You might like XBasic.
