Putting both landscape and portrait slides into PowerPoint

T

Tim

Does anyone know the easiest way to put both portrait and
landscape slides into a powerpoint presentation without
having to click on a link in the presentation. I am trying
to create a slide show that will run on a continuous loop
without needing to be touched and I can't seem to be able
to merge portrait and landscape slides into the same
presentation.

Think about this question first: Why does it matter?

On the assumption (tell me if it's incorrect) that all of your material will
be shown on a landscape monitor,

- Landscape slides will more or less fill the screen fully
- Portait slides will fill the screen from top to bottom but not side to
side
- Portrait oriented material on a landscape slide will fill the screen from
top to bottom but not side to side

Note the striking similarity between the last two. ;-)

Make your self a copy of your presentation. On the copy, click "File",
"Page Setup" and change the slide size to 11 x 11. See if that helps you
out. If not, delete it.

After you've considered the other comments to your question (which are
*very* good and valid comments, by the way), you can head to TAJ's
linking technique
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointtutorials.htm which
should do what you want.

My problem using graphic drawings I have created in such drawing programs as
Canvas and Visio is that some of them are done in portrait and some are done
in landscape. If I save these drawings as JPGs and insert them into
PowerPoint (usually on landscape slides), I lose a lot of the size of the
portrait graphics. They are no longer 8.5 x 11, but "something" by 8.5.
Plus I have to size them down to fit the slide's dimensions after I insert
them.

However, if I utilize an 11 x 11 layout all I have to do is to insert the
images and I am done. Just as you all are confused what difference it
makes, I am confused that you all haven't run into the same thing. I would
be more than happy to send you a sample file showing what I mean if
necessary.

Bill,

Yes please! I'd love a look.

As for the original post, it was about inserting slides, not photos. That is
where I got confused. I don't know how this will overcome the page setup
issue, which is the way I read it here (which is upside down, by the way
<g>).

Echo,

Now I am twice confused. How would this overcome the issue of not wanting to
use links, by, well, linking? Will two linked presentations auto run without
needing a click? Tim wants to do it without *linking*?

LOL! Someone please help me here.

Yeah, this link will run without a mouseclick. Check step 16 and you'll
see why.

HeHe. I figure sometimes I'm not worthy to be on the same newsgroup
<g>.*Very* clever! Also, nice one, TAJ.

If you find out the answer to this question could you
please forward your results. I am experiencing the same
difficulties. Thanks. GH.

Gregory, there were a number of responses to this post. You need to
click the "+" next to the original post on the web interface in order to
see the replies.

There are also workarounds on the multiple masters page of my site
(URL's in signature) in case your requirements aren't exactly the same
as the original poster's.
