Well I can't load the pic of your pc . The pics of the cpu look to have a little too much graese on them , is that grey grease on the pins or just the light shinning on them ? Hope your new cpu works out ok . I have a spare xp cpu can't remember what size it is though , if you get stuck send us a e-mail . Best of luck . :)

Nothing in those pix gives me a clue as to what's going on.

I'm not sure what thermal compound you're using but some have capacitance effects and if the compound finds it's way onto the CPU's external IC's (which yours has) it can cause problems.

Cotton buds, meths or isopropyl alcohol needed here. Clean things up.

Then just a very thin, even, smear of compound when fitting coolers to CPU's in the future.

I have an old Duron 1.1Ghz knocking about here I think if it's any help (socket A).

I've been putting 6 very teensieweensie blobs of grease on my cpus and spreading them with a credit card ( cut the card into 4 across the width) you can get a very neat thin even layer with no mess . if you take a pice of kitchen wipe and fold it several times you get a fairly rdgid wiper to run around the raised part of the cpu to take of any grease that may be resting on the lip . works for me . :)

hi thanks for your reply

could u elaborate a bit more about the part where u mention the cpus external ic's
do you mean the little bits around the big rectangle on the front of the cpu?
should there be no paste on these things?

right ive decided im gona clean it up after reading your post
obviously im not gona use water
do u mean methylated spirit?
if i dont have that wat else can i use
i was thinking of getting a tissue and wiping it off

the reason why i beleive the cpu is at fault is because
before i didnt get apost when i was in windows the pc would freeze
when playing a song it would freeze for a seocnd or 2 just compltly stop

also the actual pattern on the top up green side of the cpu looks like its melted somwwhat
the pattern is not clean its not clear

its hard to get a pic of that
but ill see if i can doo

right now im gona get that cpu tested on my friends machine
if it works on there
im in trouble

its got to be the mobo then :(

or the psu
some ppl tell me

thanks

Paper kitchen towells are better than tissue paper . You can get a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol and the cotton buds from a chemist . Once you've cleaned up your cpu you can use them to give your video players heads a clean aswell but don't drink whats left ;):D

The surface does indeed look a bit strange, like the green surface has lifted off due to heat.

I would just recommend testing in a different motherboard, or check for missing pins on the CPU itself.
