PS/2 Mouse after upgrade

I upgraded a HP Pavillion 6630 win 98se to win 2000 pro,
it has occasional problems detecting the ps/2 mouse, if
you unplug and replug it works for a while, there is a KB
article on this with no resolution(214632)I suppose I
could use an adapter and plug into USB port, or is there
a fix that I don't know about? Thanks

What can I do to fix this mess????

Sounds like a bad connector at the back of the computer or a broken wire
in the mouse cord.
