Is there a way to protect the formula in a cell, but allow the user to
change the background color of a cell?
Thank you.

Jerry,

With Excel 2002, you can allow format changes when you protect the sheet.
This would include all formatting (number, alignment, etc) except
protection, of course (wouldn't THAT have been embarrasing?! <g>).

I want to suggest you reconsider your use of manual formatting. Take a read
of "Color as data" at www.smokeylake.com/excel/excel_truths.htm.

Thank you. That will do what I wanted.

I was stuck on the computer with the oldest version of Excel when I was
researching it. (I'm too embarassed to admit WHICH version I was using.)
This would be a good time to encouraging upgrading a few computers.

Thanks also for the suggestion about the use of color. The more I think
about it, the more I think that there are better was of doing this.
