Prompted to save changes in word when none made

I am running xp, micorosft word 2002 . . .
When I go into a document and immediately close it I get the message "Do you
want to save the changes to "xxxx.doc"?
I found Susan Barnhill's reference to article 816473, which says to go into
word, tools, auto correct, smart tags, and uncheck the "label text with smart
tags" box. This does not work. I still get the same question. Any other
ideas?

Check the Undo list to see if Update Fields is listed. If the Undo button is
enabled, then some change has been made, whether you made it or not.

I went to EDIT, and it says "can't undo" so I don't believe any changed have
occured.
