Probs downloading Nokia PCsuite

Nokia PCsuite is the program that my phone uses to
communicate with my hp laptop via a DLR data cable. I
went to www.nokiausa.com and tried to download the
software. My computer asks me if I want to save the
file, run it, or save it later. I select save. It ten
asks me where to put it. I select my desktop. Then I
get this message:

"windows cannot open this file

file: MSN4A4.downloadhost

To open this file, Windows needs to know what program
created it. Windows can go online to look it up
automatically, or you can manually select from a list of
programs on your computer.

What do you want to do?"

I called nokia. They said it was a "known problem that
occurs with service pack 1." Then they instructed me to
contact Microsoft Windows Customer Service. The fact
that this pc is a laptop makes it entirely too tempting
to chuck it out the window about now!!! Any help would
be GREATLY appreciated! thanks guys

Strange. I went out to their web site and tried to download a couple of
different pc suites for different phones and they either downloaded as an
exe or a zip file. I am running Service Pack 1 of XP Pro. Do you have
winzip or some other Archiving program on your computer?

I don't think so...but honestly I don't even know what an
archiving program is. All I have on the computer is what
was on it when I purchased it, some msn software, and the
software for my printer. How can I find out? Oh, and
thanks so much for your help!

RE: new brick wall (it is not to late to throw it out the
window...)

Right after I posted the previous message a little window
popped up in the lower right hand corner of my screen.
You know, one of those ones that comes up and then leaves
right before you get a chance to read the whole
thing. :) Computer illiterate people such as myself
just love those. I did get a chance to click on it
though, and here is what it said! PCsuite is
downloaded! I was then taken to the instalation wizard!
A full 2 hours after I clicked download at the nokia
site! What in the world is that? Anyhow, it is
downloaded, and I have come to yet another brick wall.

I resarted my pc, opened the software, connected my phone
to the pc (the phone said "data accessory connected" and
the pc made the bing noise it makes when you connect
something to it), and then the pc tells me that the phone
is not connected. lol It is 1:30 in the morning here.

The cable that you purchase from Nokia has a serial port
end on it. Since my laptop only has USB ports, I
purchased a USB-to-Serial adapter and hooked it all up.
The only problem that I can think of that is preventing
my computer from recognizing my phone is that the adapter
cord isn't compatable with XP. I am so lost. Any
ideas? Thanks

P.S.

I forgot to tell you the name of the adapter! It
is "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" Do you know if
that is compatable?
