Problems running old 16 bit programs in Win XP

Colin

Hi

I have a number of old 16 bit Windows programs & DOS games that ran
successfully under WinXP until recently.
I'm running WinXP with SP2 updates.
Now none of these old programs will run & the following error message occurs

"The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:cc18 IP:011b OP:63 2f 6f 62 69
Choose close to terminate the application"

I've tried running each program using Compatibility mode. No luck though.

Not sure whether this error is due to one of the Windows Updates I've
installed or some other problem.
I've tried each of these with no problems on another WinXP PC

Any ideas

Colin

Hi Colin
Use the search feature on your machine look for command.com . If you see one
outside of the windows\system32 directory, rename it to something else and
see if that has any effect. There is a much older article in the knowledge
base for NT4 about this
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;245184 - You could
try doing as this article suggests, taking the file from your other XP
system (or by re/installing SP1).
