I have the same problem as Mark P. One solution on the
self help menu was that the following applications need
permission to acces the internet:
Microsoft AntiSpyware.Main.exe
gcasDtServ.exe
Microsoft AntiSpywareUpdater.exe
gcasServalert.exe
Unfortunately, the menu doesn't tell you how to proceed
with the process.

There are some problems with this advice.

1) It applies only to third-party software firewalls which regulate Internet
access on a per-application basis.

2) The name of the update application is GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe

If you are using the Microsoft Windows firewall included with Windows XP,
you don't need to make use of this information, even though the help
specifically mentions this.

I don't have a lot of guidance to offer, I'm afraid. One user here mentions
that setting the Internet Explorer Internet connection to "automatically
detect" proxy settings helped.

I'd love to hear from one or more others who find that this setting makes
some problem with Internet usage and Microsoft Antispyware go away.
