Problem getting on Home MSN Home Page

B

Bugsy

I am running IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633. and Windows XP Home on a
Gateway 500S. I also run Norton AV. I believe that I have all MS updates.

(I also run ZoneAlarm, SpyBot, and AdAware . . . all currently updated).

For the past couple of weeks, I have had trouble signing on to my MSN
Homepage. Nearly every attempted signon, I get (usually) a page informing
me this site is ..not available.., etc. Hitting the "refresh" button once
or twice will bring on the home page.

Now, for about a week, I get a white screen with the following cryptic
message: "y.msn.com/`>here." Again, I have to hit the "refresh" button one
to several times to get onto the home page. This procedure is aggravating
and time consuming.

What is going on? Is it my system or is it MSN?

Thanks for any input.

I'm having the same problem with a different message on a white screen
m/'>here
This is when I first open IE6 with XP Pro, dialup, automatically opening My MSN homepage
One refresh usually does the trick, incidentially, I'm also having an increasing number of page hangs
pages only get half loaded, and it continues working without progress, sometimes eventually loading.
I stop it before minimizing so it doesn't steal focus when and if it does complete the page.
If I try to close it, it's 'not responding' and it wants to close the whole application and write a report to microsoft
I can minimize it and continue working in another page only if it was already open before the freeze up
I know I shouldn't post a question in someone else's thread, but it might be relate
and if it isn't, I'll repost this as it's own subject in a few days
Thank You
Liz M.

Bugsy,
You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK

[more info]
Possibly your cache folder is corrupt:

Thanks for your tips. I did most of them (down to the "cache" part, which I
am somehat unsure how to do), and it has apparently helped. Apparently some
of the files mentioned in the www.mvps.org instructions are "hidden" and I
cannot find them.

Anyway, my "problem" is better, at least for now, and I thank you.
