Problem connecting 2 XP PCs wirelessly

V

Vince

I have two XP PCs. The main PC is wired to an 802.11g wireless router
which is wired to a DSL broadband modem. The second PC has a wireless
PCI 802.11g adapter card.

Both PCs can use the Internet without any problem but I cannot get the
two PCs to see each other. I've set the same workgroups up on both of
them but neither appears to be able to access it.

Curiously, the main PC cannot navigate the DSL modem's configuration
pages (using IE) because the relevant links between the pages do not
appear. It can go directly to the configuration pages, if the correct
addresses are entered. However, the second PC via the wireless link
has no problem with the modem's configuration pages.

I suspect the network configuration on the main PC isn't entirely
correct. It was set up using the relevant supplied CDs or XP wizards.

Could anyone give me a few pointers as to how I could sort this out.

Thanks,
Vince.

I have almost the exact same problem. The only differences
are the I am using a cable modem and that I get a error
message "... workgroup is not accessible... the list of
servers are not currently available"

please help.

I am going to try to ping each other and post the result
online. thanks.

After looking at my previous reply, I reset the Local Area Connector
settings back to auto (giving the ipconfig results below). No
apparent effect on anything, though.

The ipconfig /all command has been very useful in enabling me to see
all the PC's network settings together conveniently. Having
determined that ecerything looked OK, another similar thread on this
forum suggested disabling all the firewalls before diagnosing network
problems. I did this and, hey presto, the connections appear to be
working now. I haven't checked everything through fully yet but at
least my PCs can now see eachother.
