"problem communicating with the printer" error message

Lisa

Every time I bring my computer out of standby mode and
try to print something... ANYTHING... I get the error
message "Problem communicating with the printer" and the
document won't print. I have a newer Dell desktop,
Windows XP, and a Lexmark X83 printer/scanner/copier. I
have tried reinstalling the printer software and driver,
reconnecting the cables, and I have tried all the
suggestions in troubleshooting. The ONLY thing that
solves this problem is restarting the computer. Something
happens when it goes into standby mode, but what? Please
help. Lexmark technicians haven't been able to solve this
problem via email, either. Thanks.

If you're connecting through a USB port, check you don't have the USB
Controllers set to power down after time to save power.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. From the Hardware tab,
select Device Manager. Scroll down until you see the USB Controllers.....
click on the + to expand the tree. Right click on the USB Hub(s) and check
their Power Management status.
