Problem accessing shares on w3k

Hi all,

this is my situation: 1 w2k domain controller, and other two w3k
domain controller added in a second time. Active directory works fine,
but we have a problem: when we try to open a share on the w3k server
form the w2k server, both from explorer or command line, the server
prompt for username and password, but we are using the domain
administrator account. What can it be?

Thanks, Luca.

The default share permissions in Windows Server 2003 are different from
Win2k. In Win2k the default is Everyone - Full Control. In Windows Server
2003 the default is Everyone - Read Only. Even a domain administrator will
not be able to access the share over the network unless you change the
default share permissions.

This is a thing i already know, but two points remains unclear to me:

- i made a call like \\server, not specifying a share, only the list,
so where i can change the permissions for this? Same behaviour
browsing the network from explorer, i arrive till the server icon, but
then the request for authentication appears.

- why i can easily open the shares from my windows xp pro client, even
if they are everyone-readonly?

Luca.
