Printer won't print

I have a Lexmark Z52 that worked fine until I downloaded
Windows 2000 XP Professional. I have tried uninstalling
drivers several times, reinstalling the printer with
different drivers Lexmark has available and also with the
add printer Wizard. Nothing works. I have tried
installing my Canon BJC 4300 printer and haven't had any
luck there either. I have tried a different printer cable
that I know worked at my office. I am not using a USB. I
don't know what to try next. Does anyone have a solution?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Jim
.

Yes this same sort of prob. has happened to me also.. BUT
ONLY with a USB PRINTER. I will explain what happened to
me with my printer, and MAYBE IT MAY HELP YOU, and maybe
not. Sorry, I can't advise you more. But, I NEVER would
have thought that MY PROBLEM would have been solved in
the way it did.
Anyway, I bought a NEW Epson 925 Photo printer this yr.
It DIDN'T come with a USB cable (included), and
recomended the purchase of a NEW USB Cable just to hook
it up.
I ALSO have a Lexmark (Compaq)model Z65? (if I remember
correctly)that "was" connected to a desktop computer
using Windows XP (home). Now I have purchased and
Installed Windows XP (Pro) on the (Compaq) computer. I
have to NOTE that I did NOT use or connect the Lexmark
printer to this computer after the XP (Pro) install. But,
I did have another printer that I (liked better than the
Lexmark pinter (because the Lexmark USED too much
ink!).This is just MY opinon, but Lexmark sucks! It TOO
is a USB (HP model 832C). I used the WIZARD to install
and to configure the HP (USB) printer. THE PRINTER WORKED
JUST FINE!
Now back to the Epson 925 Photo printer. As I stated,
the Epson DIDN'T come with a USB Cable, and SO, I decided
to USE the (USB Cable from the Lexmark printer) that I
wasn't going to use any longer. THIS CABLE WAS A TYPICAL
(STANDARD USB "PRINTER CABLE") AND ACCORDING TO THE EPSON
MANUAL WAS 6 FOOT (OR UNDER), AND WAS OK TO USE WITH THE
EPSON 925 PHOTO PRINTER. But, after several attempts to
install the Epson, using XP (Pro) drivers, and then the
drivers that CAME with the Epson, I could NOT get XP (Pro)
to FIND the printer, or even Print out a TEST page. I
even went to the Epson Website to download the "latest"
drivers for it. Still NO LUCK!
I then turned to Epson (Tech. Support) for help. The
Tech. was somewhat dumbfounded, but then the
Tech. "REMEMBERED" that I had, and was ALSO using a HP
printer with a (USB) Cable that worked just fine still.
He asked me HOW LONG THE USB CABLE WAS ON THE HP
PRINTER. (this just may be the solution to your problem)
I stated that it was about 8 foot long. He stated that
Epson doesn't want me to use a Cable that IS OVER 6 FOOT
LONG. BUT, he instructed for me to "TRY" the LONGER 8
foot cable from the HP, on the Epson printer INSTEAD of
the 6 foot one from the Lexmark printer.
This really didn't make any sense to me, but what the
Hell. I shut down the Computer, and then took the USB
cable from the HP, and pluged it into the Epson printer.
Then fired up the Computer once more, and low and behold,
the Epson printer WAS FOUND under NEW HARDWARE, and the
Wizard took over from there. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR
THE EPSON PRINTER!! But, NOW what am I to do with the HP
printer?? I decided to just for sh-ts & giggles, to take
the Lexmark USB (6 foot)Cable that wasn't any good for
the Epson printer, and hook it up to the HP printer.
And the HP printer WORKED ALSO!!!!!
Do you understand what I am saying? YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE
THAT YOU ARE USING A CABLE THAT IS "EITHER" TOO LONG, OR
SHORT, FOR YOUR NEW PRINTER, EVEN IF IT ISN'T A "USB"
CABLE. I KNOW THAT THIS DOESN'T MAKE REAL GOOD SENSE, BUT
IT REALLY DID WORK, AND IS STILL HOOKED UP TODAY, AND
WORKING JUST FINE!
YOU NEED TO FIND THE "OLD" PRINTER THAT YOU WERE USING,
AND GET IT WORKING, THEN SWAP THE CABLES TO THE NEW
PRINTER. I HOPE THAT THIS WILL ASSIST YOU TO FIGURE IT
OUT. OTHERWISE, ALL I CAN SUGGEST IS, THAT YOU MAY NEED
SOME OTHER DRIVERS FOR YOUR PRINTER. CHECK THE WEBSITE,
OR CALL FOR HELP AT THE MANUFACTURER.

Hi, I've just read your very interesting post about USB cables.
I was 'given' an Epson 2000P that I've not been able to get prints from, despite cleaning and flushing and fitted with new genuine Epson inks.

Do you think the cable length problem is causing this problem.

Derek :(
