pptp connection to network with same IP range ?

Hi,

Im running a LAN on 192.168.1.# and connecting to a remote network on the
same range 192.168.1.#. The PPTP connection is established ok but when
attempting to connect (using VNC) to 192.168.1.1 i cant find the host.

This works ok on a stand alone machine on 192.168.0.# but this connection
does not have sevaral routers and firewalls in the way.

- I cant ping 192.168.1.1 from any of the connections.
- On both connection the WINS ip is 192.168.1.1 on the PPTP adapter.
- On both connections the PPTP adapter is allocated 192.168.1.45 by DHCP.
- I can use VNC direct to other sites (i.e no other medium)
- I can use Terminal Server Clinet over PPTP to other sites.

Its just using VNC over PPTP at this site above that is the problem.

Thanks for any informaion.
Scott.

You can't get this working if your lan and the remote lan is in the same
IP-range. You will need to change one of them.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. What if i got WINS or LMHOST working, would it ever
work using the machine name ?

Thanks
Scott.

What if i setup another machine in another internal subnet i.e

192.168.3.# (my new machine)
v
bridge/router
v
192.168.1.# (remainder of LAN)
v
192.168.1.25 (internet gateway)
v
internet
v
router (external IP)
v
192.168.1.# (PPTP + VNC host)

When connecting via PPTP from subnet "3" via subnet "1" which is used as
gateway to internet, would i be able to find a host on another "1" subnet or
would my packets still be confused by using "192.168.1.25" as as gateway ?

Thanks
Scott.
