PPT 2003 PPS transitions differ from Slide show view in PPT

I am trying to give advice to someone with this problem:
They use fade-in/fade-out transitions in their slideshow. When they select
"use hardware acceleration" the slideshow views correctly while in
PowerPoint but when they make a .pps file the transitions aren't the same.

They were asking if there is a way to save a setting like that in a .pps
file. They also were asking about a registry setting that would use
hardware acceleration.

Also: The resolution of their monitor is 2560x1600 ( Dell 30" ) , they have
two Geforce 7800GTX in SLI mode.

I told them to try reducing the windows hardware acceleration. That didn't
work. I also advised them that the resolution of images in their file could
be affecting the way the PPS views. They said their images are all
2560x1600.

I told them to do this:
1. Select "Slide Show" | "Set Up Show..." menu item.
2. In "Slide show resolution", select "[Use Current Resolution]" item.
3. Click OK

I haven't heard about whether that helped yet.

Also, isn't 2560x1600 a bit too much for PowerPoint? Does this new SLI
video mode affect the way slides view?

Thanks for your help.

Saving as a PPS shouldn't change anything, however, if they're showing the
PPS from the PPT Viewer as opposed to using PPT itself (full program), that
could make a difference.
