Power suppply with 12V and mobo without 12V connect - works?

I have a new Antec 300W PS w/ a 12V connector, but the mobo I'm using is
pretty old and doesn't have a 12V connection. Still should work though,
right?

It was working before during the initial OS setup, but now 2 diff. hard
drives on 2 diff. controllers won't power up. It won't POST either. No
beeps. I scooted another PC over and set it next to the trouble PC and
connected power from the other PS to the drive and it spins up.

Any ideas?

What are the voltages of the +5v and +12v at the drive when it "won't
power up" ??

I don't have any voltage meters. I put my hand on the drive to feel if it's
spinning up or not. Also, the PS fan spins and the CPU fan comes on.

Okay - thanks for the confirmation that it should work.

The four pin 12V connector originally speced for the P4 is now used on
several Socket A boards for the AMD Athlon. Newer MSI boards come to mind.
Sometimes its use is optional, othertimes suggested. It's worth noting the
newest ATX spec drops the -5V line.

The 12 volt connector is only used on P4boards. Shouldn't
make any never mind for you. Sounds like it failed, or the
on switch failed.

If switch failed, PSU and CPU fans would not activate.

If you'd bothered to read his original post you would have
noticed that he didn't say that then.

Not only did I read his original post, I replied to it.
