Power Management Controls Greyed Out

I currently am running Windows XP SP2 on my laptop. All of a sudden , all
the power schemes settings were greyed out to nothing not allowing me to
change when the monitor turns of etc. Is there any way of restoring the
defaults?

Thanks, just used this and it worked like a charm. Much easier than any of the other suggestions to mess with the registry files or install totally new software, remove or update drivers etc. Two clicks and the problem was solved (Power Options settings were greyed out).
