portrait vs landscape

I think portrait is the default orientation for most
printers and applications.

Is there a way that Windows can be set to work in
Portrait orientation rather than landscape?

This question is not relating to Printing but rather the display on the screen. Some monitors are pivotal and can made to display in Portrait mode, but these monitors are rather expensive and hard to get. So my question is relating to windows display properties if it can be changed to display in portrait mode and simply mound the monitor on the side so at to achieve a portrait mode as per the pivotal display which are hardware or firmware controlled.

Every week or so, there are postings on this site about monitors displaying
sideways or displaying upside down from people who don't want their monitor
to do that. Maybe if you searched back a bit you will find some of those
posts and see what happened to make their monitors go sideways. I don't know
what kind of stress a monitor might suffer if it were parked sideways for a
length of time...maybe none.

Be careful running a monitor on it's side, if it was not designed to be run
that way then there could be problems with heat build-up. Also you may want
to check into getting an LCD display. Some models are being sold to be
rotated to portrait mode and because it is so much easier to make an LCD
rotate than a traditional CRT the price is not significantly higher.
