PICMG Bus Passive Backplane

Discussion in 'Microsoft Windows 2000 Hardware' started by Walter Eicher, Mar 8, 2006.

  1. Hi!

    Configuration:
For our machine control systems we use a 19" Rack with a PICMG Bus
passive backplane (iEi PX-14S2) with ISA and PCI. There is a Intel
S21152BB Chip (PCI-to-PCI Bridge) on this backplane.

I think 3 PCI Connectors are controled directly by the CPU-Card (BusA)
and the other 4 PCI Connectors are behind the PCI-to-PCI bridge
    (BusB).

For a typical application we use 4 PCI cards and 2 ISA Cards.

    Problem:
We must plug at least one PCI card to BusB. All of the PCI Cards work
perfectly on BusA. But each time we setup a system we have to find out
which card will work in BusB. It's hard to belive, but it's not
    always the same card.

    The errors we get:
    - Card not found on setup by hardware wizard.
    - Card get's lost in operation (Driver reports "no card")
    - The OS (WIN2000) freezes. No more reaction to Mouse and keyboard.
The Mousepointer does not move anymore.

Has somebody seen the same effects and hopefully a solution for this
    problem?

    Best regards
    Walter
