Permission problem - URGENT !

Hi All,

I really need your help because I'm trying to give access
to one file in a subfolder where the user have only right
on this file but not on the rest of the subfolder and the
parent of this subfolder.
I already tried a lot of combinaison with the "Traverse
Folder / Execute File" but always without succes. I also
search a lot on Internet but without success.

I created a shortcut to this file that the user need to
open (because to user cannot browse the folders
structure).
If I give a little too much permission, the user can
browse all the folder structure and see all the files
inside of the structure and if I restrict a little more,
the shortcut don't work anymore and windows propose me to
delete the shortcut because it is wrong.

Could somebody give me the exact permission I have to
apply on the folder structure and the exact permission on
the file (for read only access).

Thank you very much to anybody helping me for this urgent
matter !!!

You really have not said what it is that you want
to accomplish. You have said that you can make
it so that the user can access the one intended file
but not tranverse the folders. You indicate this is
not what you want. Then you say you have also
made it so they can see the folder content listed
in addition to having access to this one file, and
again you indicate that this is not what you want.

However, I do not see where you state what it is
that you do want to have for the permissions.

Hooowww sorry !

What I wouldd like to do is the following:

Ther is two group of users A and B. The users A have
full control on a parent folder and on all the sub
folders/files. The group B have no permission on this
parent folder/subfolder/files. In one of the subfolders,
I have one specific file and I would like the Users of
the group B could open this file for read access only.
But I don't want that the users of the group B can see
the structure and the files of these subfolder/files.
--> I put a shortcut on the desktop of the users of the
group B that link to this file and I try to set the good
permissions on the Parent folder/subfolders/files.

I hope you understand what's my problem.
English is not my mother language...

Thank you very much,

Thomas

OK it is clear.

So you grant UsersA Modify on ParentFolder and
set it to be inherited over all contained subfolders/files.

Now, UsersB has no permission of Filex down in some
subfolder, so you go to that file and add a grant of Read
on that one File.

Next, you make a shortcut toFileX using the full path
and place this on the desktop. Look at the properties of
the shortcut and make sure the Open in setting is not the
directory of FileX, but something the users can access,
like %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Now, you open Documents and Settings, and copy this
shortcut from your .\desktop folder to the .\desktop folder
of All Users or of each account that is in UsersB group.
You copy it - not move it.

Finally, you check that all accounts in UsersB are either
also in Users or that the UsersB group is listed in the User
Right name Bypass Traverse Checking.

This does not work for you ?
