I have a windows 2000 server attached to cx600 San. It was moved to another
cx600 San and now most of the servers attached to the SAN exhibit the
following in the event log.

*
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Perflib
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1008
Date: 3/21/2005
Time: 10:00:05 AM
User: N/A
Computer: XXXXXXX
Description:
The Open Procedure for service "PerfDisk" in DLL
"C:\WINNT\system32\perfdisk.dll" failed. Performance data for this service
will not be available. The Status code returned is the first DWORD in the
attached data.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 68 10 00 00 h...
*
Also attached please find the registry hive for the perf
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfDisk]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfDisk\Performance]
"Close"="CloseDiskObject"
"Collect"="CollectDiskObjectData"
"Collect Timeout"=dword:000007d0
"Library"="perfdisk.dll"
"Object List"="234 236"
"Open"="OpenDiskObject"
"Open Timeout"=dword:00001388
"SystemStartTimeOfLastErrorMsg"=hex:e6,c6,eb,ab,84,2e,c5,01
"WbemAdapFileTime"=hex:00,a0,38,ed,84,36,c3,01
"WbemAdapFileSize"=dword:00006110
"WbemAdapStatus"=dword:00000000

*
Steps I have taken to resolve this so far
*
I found a kb article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811066

However this relates to windows 2000 pre service pack 4.

*
I have also tired the following

diskperf -yd
diskperf -nd
diskperf -yv
diskperf -nv

with no luck.
*
Stop the wmi service
%systemroot%\system32\wbem and rename the folder Repository to repository.old
Restart the wmi service
no luck here too
*

Any help would be appreciated.

please see the Workaround section on this KB page (skip first bullet point):

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=828872

Although the page discusses the error in relation the NetBEUI protocol the
workarounds are universal.

Please let me know if that doesn't help as I have other things to try.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick
This does work however we are actually disabling monitoring. I want to be
able to have it enabled. Once I enable it the errors return.
Thank You
