Panasonic KX-FLM600/650 Laser Printer "DRUM"

I have posted the topic here before and did not get replied, can some help me
please.

The drum and toner came with in the original replacement kit and are quite
expensive. Even after replacing both new drum and toner cartridges I often get
the message "worn drum." I clean the green plastic drum with cotton dip in
alcohol. The message disappears and reappears after awhile.

I am wondering could I replace/recondition only the drum (there are still about
1/2 full tone in the cartridge) and buy generic tone separately. Has anyone
successfully replacement/recondition the "green" plastic drum?

Thank you.

I do not know this model of laser printer. Most drums are made of
aluminum and coated with a photosensive layer that is often greenish
color. I have an older Panasonic Laser Printer (the KX-P4420) which use
steh smae drum as many HP laser printers, so I was able to just remake
the drum using a repair kit for the HP. I think it only cost me $12-15
that way, but I did have to exchange the edge gears since the HP used a
different style one than that of the Panasonic.

Don't know if this will be a workable solution for you.

Thanks Arthur, how did you find out your printer's roller is similar to HP
rollers? It would save a me a bundle if I could do the same. Anyway, I took
apart an old drum roller. The roller cannot be remove from the plastic housing.
Using a powerful ShopVac, I suck out the tone from the roller wiper (soft foam).
This action finally eliminate the "worn drum" message. I will wait and see how
long will it last, before I start to refilled the toner instead of buying the
original replacement from Panasonic.

Thank you again.

Hi Jack,

I went to one of the cartridge rebuilder websites and they had the
dimensions of the drums listed (this is a few years back.) I measured
the drum on the Panasonic printer and found the one which was the same,
and ordered it, and it all worked out. I had to dismantle the whole
drum unit and that took a bit of figuring, and then I had to remove the
drive gears the drum had on either end and replace the ones that came
with the HP replacement drum with those.

It saved over $125 and it has worked fine since, but that was the
KX-P4420 model printer, so it may not be as easy to accomplish with
other models.
